You might be wondering, “Why should I read the Bhagavad Gita? Isn’t it an old book for retired people? I have physics exams, coding assignments, and a social life. I don’t have time for religion.”
If this is what you are thinking, then this book was written exactly for YOU.
Let me tell you a secret: The Bhagavad Gita is not a book about religion. It is a book about YOU. It is the ultimate “User Manual” for the most complex machine on earth—the Human Mind.
Science and Spirituality: The Two Wings I have spent my life walking two paths that many think are different but are actually the same. As a student of Science (MSc in Environmental Science), I learned how to measure the pollution outside in the atmosphere. But it was the Gita that taught me how to measure and clean the “pollution” (anger and greed) inside the mind. As a student of Management (MBA), I learned how to manage companies and sales. But it was the Gita that taught me the highest management of all—Life Management. And as a Monk of the Dasanami Sampradaya, following the great Adi Shankaracharya and the fiery Swami Vivekananda, I realized that true strength is not in the muscles, but in the Will.
Why “The Warrior Student”? Life is not a bed of roses. It is a battlefield—a Kurukshetra.
- When you are scared before an exam, that is your battlefield.
- When you are tempted to cheat or lie, that is your battlefield.
- When you feel lonely or confused about your future, that is your battlefield.
On this battlefield, you can either be like the confused Arjuna, who wanted to run away, or you can be the Warrior Student, who stands up and fights with a smile.
How to Use This Book I have not written this book to be worshipped with flowers. I have written it to be used. Drawing from the teachings of the Dakshinamurthy Matha and the ideals of the Ramakrishna Order, I have broken down the complex Sanskrit verses into practical “capsules” of wisdom.
- Don’t Rush: Read one chapter a week.
- Test It: I am a man of science. Do not believe me blindly. Try the “Experiments” (Sadhana Corner) given in each chapter. If they work for you, keep them.
- Reflect: Look at the diagrams. Visualize the chariot of your body. Ask yourself: “Who is driving my life today? My intellect or my senses?”
A Final Blessing Through the AUM FOUNDATION, my mission has always been to socialize our lives through Yogic wisdom. This book is a part of that mission.
I pray to Lord Dakshinamurthy and the great masters of our lineage that as you turn these pages, you discover the sleeping lion within you. May you succeed in your exams, but more importantly, may you succeed in Life.
Arise! Awake! And stop not till the goal is reached.
With Love and Blessings,
Swami Pranavananda
